Oddities [12/17]
The bell chimed as Kat pushed open the door to the shop, letting the door swing shut on its own once she'd stepped inside. The woman shivered briefly as the comparative warmth seemed to intensify her chill; her hands rubbed over the arms of her thin coat as she started slowly looking over the merchandise. She wasn't the type to be interested in normal things, and much of what lined the walls and shelves seemed to attract her interest.
Glancing towards the back of the store, she looked for its proprietor.

While he heard the bell, he didn't look up right away. Instead the man in the black slacks and dress shirt continued turning the pages of some old tome.
"Do not touch anything that you cannot identify. If you damage it, you must pay for it. And if you have to ask, you cannot afford it." he said as he skimmed the page. Eventually he looked up with a look of boredom on his face. That is until he saw his customer.
"Many pardons!" he said as he came around the counter.
"Good to see you again...Kat was it?"

"I think there are things I can identify that some should not touch," the woman called out, gesturing towards a particular shelf just as the shopkeeper turned towards her. The change in his outward demeanor when he realized it was her was somewhat amusing, making a little smile play at the corners of her mouth. When he spoke her name, she nodded. "It still is. Good to see you as well, Oztrandor."
She glanced around, looking for other patrons. "Your welcome sounds well rehearsed... something you have to say often?"

A restrained smile was on his lips as he approached.
"Yes, quite. I have plenty of bumbling locals desperate to see something to stimulate their pedestrian lives that come in to totter among artifacts of the unknown. Perhaps I display some items so openly for my own, admittedly dark, sense of humor." he smirked.
"You however do not fit that bill, and deserve my full attention. Is there anything that you are looking for in particular?"

Kat laughed, a sound that seemed unconsciously laced with as much malice as mirth. "Some of us have no time for the ordinary, and woe be to those that would still try and demand it. I might like how you think..."
Getting to business, she raised a brow. "I'm wondering if you have a straw made of either silver or gold. It needs to be no less than six, yet no more than nine, inches long."

Her laughter brought a smile to his face, but as she brought up business he became more reserved once more. He started to step backwards.
"What an interesting need... I don't usually have requests for such a thing." he said before turning, and stepping around the counter. He searched through a few drawers until he produced a reed of gold that was exactly seven and a half inches long.
"Will this suit your purposes?" he asked while holding it up for her to see.

"Not typical, remember?" She smiled, and walked down the aisle and back towards the counter. Quietly, she waited for him to search through things, taking the opportunity to get a closer look at any items that may be kept behind the counter. Her hands came to rest on the counter, her fingers outlining some of the whorls in the dark wood.
When he turned, straw in hand, a brow raised as she looked at it. "That could do..." Twisting her wrists, she turned her palms up. "May I?"

"Hmph, definitely not typical. High praise by the way." he said as he set it gently in her hand.
"From the gardens of King Midas... or so said the former owner. I wouldn't exactly call that fool and expert, but it is genuine gold."

"From you? I certainly take it as such."
The witch held it up to her eye, looking through it briefly to make sure nothing blocked it. Rolling it over in her fingers, she looked to see if there were any markings scribed onto the golden surface. "King Midas, eh? Whether or not it is a true story, it looks as if it will suit my purpose." She lowered her hands, handing it back over to the man.
"Where do we go from here?"

"I'm glad... From here we discuss price. For this simple piece a mere twelve hundred, being that it's origin cannot be proven, but I am always interested in equal trade." he said as he watched her look the item over.

Kat didn't flinch at the price. "I think I have something you may be interested in for trade. Something recently acquired from the Shadowlands."

He looked very impressed.
"The Shadowlands you say?... Go on."

"As I'm sure you know, there are some rather toxic creatures within that place. I have the venom of their pit spiders."She paused. "Interested?"

He stroked his beard as he considered her offer.
"I suppose it would depend on quantity..."

He gave his beard a few tugs before finally speaking.
"I could part with this item for the venom, and the knowledge of why you need the straw."

He chuckled.
"Not me I hope...In fact that will be in the purchasing agreement. But yes. you have a deal."

"It isn't for you... and I can't imagine it would be unless you dressed me to embarrass myself at your gala." The witch laughed, and extended her hand. "I'll bring it to you before nightfall, and will retrieve the reed then, if that is amenable."

He nodded, and shook her hand firmly.
"A bargain is struck. I'll get the papers drawn up straight away."
