Hollow Steel (tag Tori)
After she'd cleaned herself, Arkadi takes a cab with Tori and walked the rest of the way to Beovyn's hall. If the doors were open, he'd look for the craftsman, calling out if he wasn't immediately visible. "Beovyn, I've brought someone looking to borrow your facilities!" If the door was closed, he'd instead hear a loud knock from a powerful fist and the same greeting if he opened the door.

Re: Hollow Steel (tag Tori)
The doors to Drekisalr were wide open. The clang of metal striking metal rang loudly from the forge inside. Beovyn, wearing only thick leather pants despite the cold weather, swung his hammer down onto his latest project. The heated metal bent to his will more and more with each strike. The one-eyed man looked up towards the new comers before making one last strike, and dipping the piece in an oil bath. Flames shot up briefly, licking at the air, before he set it to the side, and approached.
"Borrow? What do you mean?"
He took a swig from a mug that was sitting on the main long-table, and then waved them inside. Beyond the table and forge a slightly raised level held a simple yet obvious throne, and to its left another table. This one overflowing with gold items. Everything from rings to bars to coins laid piled high out in the open.

The young woman had seen better days. Though freshly showered, she had on old, ratty clothes and looked like she was fresh from a weeklong bender. She leaned on the doorframe for suport, her glassy eyes turned and focused finally on the forge, and her face lit up.
She walked in towards the forge, completely oblivious to the men in the room.

Arkadi held out an arm to stop Tori from wandering to the forge before they'd spoken with Beovyn. " Yes, borrow. Tori here is a Smith in her own right, but without her own forge in the area. We were hoping you might be willing to share some space for a little while."

She is stopped by the larger man, slowly turning her eyes up to him. "Sorry...I just...it's gorgeous...way bigger than the one I used before..." she speaks to him with a hushed reverence for the space.

Beovyn looked them both over as he took another swig. He set the mug down loudly though his body language didn't suggest any anger. He crossed his arms before glancing to the forge, and back again.
"This forge is not just a forge. It is also something of an alter, and a very intimate extension of me." he said while gesturing to it.
There are conditions that must be satisfied before I would even consider it further. We can start at more in-depth introductions."

She turns her eyes slowly back to the forge itself. "I'm Tori." She says in a dreamy far away voice.
"It is just beautiful..." She scans the area, surveying it with the admiration one might a temple or gallery of priceless art. Not looking at Beovyn as of yet.

He sighs. "Tori. I'm sure the man appreciates that you think his forge is beautiful, but he wants to know who the hell you are. That is what 'more in-depth introductions' means."

The young women looks up at Arkadi, taking a moment to realize he was speaking to her. Once she caught his meaning, she snaps out of her reverie and looks up at the host with a bit of surprise. "Oh, hi. I'm Tori. What would you like to know big fella?" she smiles the easy smile of someone who had very little to be happy about, but was trying nonetheless.

Beovyn stared at her for a long moment with a clenched jaw. Eventually he sighed and spoke.
"Where are you from? What are your affiliations? What brings you to the area? Things like these, and more."
He gestured to the table.
"Sit and we will talk." he said before tossing some wood on the pit of coals that served to heat the hall. He coaxed the fire to life, and the damp coolness that the forge didn't already take care of was forced out. He filled a pitcher with something from a barrel, and poured a honey colored liquid into his mug. He set it within reach of his guests, and sat at the head of the table.

She would sit down on the floor, running her fingers along the table. "I'm nobody from about six hundred foster homes. I don't have people other than my brother and I'm here because he's gone and I am trying to keep my shit together.." She quickly corrects herself. "Sorry for the language. Arkadi here is trying to help me. But the waiting is making me crazy. I've been told I'm an ecstatic but I've never been part of anything formal because my brother didn't turn like me and I didn't want to divide my attention."

Arkadi had a frustrated expression as he spoke. "I apologize, Tori is not doing very well right now. I should have made sure she was in better shape before bringing her here. She is also not well versed on communicating with other traditions, which makes it fortunate she found me. As a Hollow One, I care much less about such things."

She looks over to him, slightly hurt. "Did I say the wrong thing?" she asks with a touch of childlike insecurity.

Beovyn looked between the two of them with a raised brow. "She will learn, one way or another." he said to Arkadi before turning his gaze back to the woman.
"What is your interest in the forge?"

She turns back to him and speaks earnestly, working hard to focus through the haze of her current high.
"I've never seen one like yours. I'll just put this out there. I'm a messed up kid. The world is insane and chaotic. And there's no high, no feeling of the flesh like taking a piece of metal and casting out the impurities. No baptism as cleansing as the fires of the forge." She says suddenly feeling extremely vulnerable.
"There is no sin that can't be undone forcing out the weakness of metal. Making it something better than it could ever have been before...."
She lowers her head, picking self-consciously at a fraying thread at the hem of her shirt. "Sorry, that sounds so lame out loud...."

The slightly irritated set to Beovyn's jaw shifted as did the way he was looking at her. Any dismissiveness seemed to wash away from his tone as he spoke.
"You have a poetry in you I haven't seen much yet in this...recently. Tell me of your experience. Do you have an example of your work?" His focus seemed to be entirely on the woman as he waited for her response.

Re: Hollow Steel (tag Tori)
She shakes her head not looking up, still twisting her tattered shirt. "I had a bag with me but I got kicked around and it was stolen last week. Mostly, I have to sell stuff to douchebags to keep up. We live pretty portable lives...my brother and I." she says, trying to seem blasé and emotionless about that fact.
“And people don’t appreciate handmade items anymore. I had been mostly making jewelry out of sleazeball’s auto shops with butane, a soup can, plaster, sand and a hammer. I had access once to a true forge at CCAD in Columbus, but we had to leave town pretty fast. I’ve made three blades and an axe head…and it was the most calm and focused I’ve ever felt. I sold them for practically nothing so Johnny could buy more smack. He’s in sales… ” There is a part of her that seems to try and push away that whimsical side of her, fighting for a more harsh realism that is somtimes found in people who live on the streets.

Re: Hollow Steel (tag Tori)
Beovyn looked her over again, but it was different this time. He looked for callouses and burns, as well as other signs of the trade. After a moment he stood, and strode over to the forge area. From behind a table he pulled out his weapon of choice, an expertly crafted great axe. He brought it over for Tori to inspect. The reddish steel was covered in knot-work of Celtic or Nordic origin, and it radiated a strange warmth when touched.
"I crafted this shortly after I arrived. It has served me well ever sense."
He reached out his hand for the weapon. A keen eye would notice something odd about how the light almost shined off of the skin like it was also metalic.
"How does your skill compare to this?" he asked with hope in his voice.

Re: Hollow Steel (tag Tori)
She reached out for it with slightly calloused hands, but at the last minute, pulling back her hands as if it were made from vicious serpents. Her skin was pale enough to show there were subtle signs of at best, apprentice level experience. But she also seemed to try and take care of her skin.
She gazes at the weapon with reverence, and looks up at his own hands though saying nothing yet. Her voice is soft and distant. "My skill is nothing by comparison. I wouldn't even want to touch that. I think I'd make it somehow...less, just having it close to my sorry ass."

"Touching it will make you more. What other way could you know what greatness feels like when you go to make your masterpiece?"
He set the axe on the table before turning back to her.
"I know you seek to use the forge, but do you seek to be taught how to use it like a master?"

She thinks about his words for a long moment before something that resembles understanding dawns on her. "Oh. I get it. I'm sorry for wastin' your time man. You're place is amazing...and your work it is just incredible...nobody like me goes very far in anything. Someone special needs this place." She stands up on unsteady feet, turning to look for Arkadi.

Beovyn raised a brow in confusion.
"Get it? That makes one of us. I see you drool over the greatness that is my forge, and look upon my work with the respect and awe due it, so I show my willingness to consider taking you on as an apprentice of the craft. Now you seek to flee?"

She would regard him with confusion. "I'm a screw up, sir." She would say bluntly.
"I have to find my brother. People like us...don't have roots." She says the last bit like a familiar script.
"I won't amount to much, I don't want to waste your time."

Arkadi hadn't left his spot when she looked about for him. He had been watching the exchange with a discerning eye, and his arms were folded. "Tori. Take him up on his offer. Even if you never come close to his skill, you will certainly learn a few new things. And when you are ready to leave, you will take those things with you."

Re: Hollow Steel (tag Tori)
She looks torn. “I am appreciative, for sure. But I don’t think you understand…my brother…is missing. I need to find him. I need to beat feet and shake shady trees until some lowlife tells me where he is…” she shifts uncomfortably.
“I can’t be playing around and having a party when he might need me.” She says, nearly pleading her defense. ”He could be hurting…or worse.” She says trying to push that thought away with a smile that doesn’t reach her eyes. “I don’t want to waste your time sir…not until Johnny is found. Maybe he will let me stay for a time..”
